Turbochargers are popular for boosting an engine's power without increasing size or weight. Turbocharged engines are replacing naturally aspirated ones since even smaller engines are able to put out more horsepower and torque.

However, putting the increased power and other benefits aside, turbocharged engines are often associated with the word turbo lag.

A turbocharger, or "turbo" in short, is a device that increases the power of an internal combustion engine by forcing air into the combustion chamber.

The increase in power comes from the engine receiving many more oxygen molecules from the same air volume. Since the air is pressurized, the mixture is more explosive, the engine thus accelerates more easily, and it does not need more fuel.

The Blowoff valve also called the Dump valve, relieves pressure in turbocharged engines. The blowoff valve releases compressed air directly into the atmosphere.

This valve is intended to prevent the formation of high pressure between the turbocharger and the throttle valve and thus reduce wear and tear on the turbocharger and the engine itself.
